Print Not Sticking to Build Plate
Elegoo 3D Printer (Resin)
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Resin prints not sticking to the build plate is the #1 issue with resin printers. The bottom layer exposure is usually too short, or the build plate needs re-leveling. Increase bottom exposure time and re-level the plate.
Affected Models
- Elegoo Mars 4
- Elegoo Mars 3
- Elegoo Saturn 3
- Elegoo Saturn 2
Common Causes
- Bottom layer exposure time too short for the resin
- Build plate not properly leveled
- Build plate surface too smooth — needs roughening
- Resin too cold
- FEP tension too tight — pulling the print off the plate
How to Fix It
-
Increase bottom layer exposure by 10-20 seconds.
Check the resin manufacturer's settings. If prints fail, add 10-20 seconds to the bottom layers.
-
Re-level the build plate carefully.
Use the paper method: loosen the plate screws, lower onto a sheet of paper, tighten when you feel resistance. Make sure the plate is flat against the FEP.
-
Lightly sand the build plate with 200-400 grit sandpaper.
A slightly rough surface gives the cured resin more to grip. Sand in a cross-hatch pattern, then clean with IPA.
-
Warm the resin to at least 20°C.
Cold resin cures poorly. In winter, warm the bottle in warm water (not hot) before pouring.
Frequently Asked Questions
What bottom exposure time should I use?
It varies by resin and printer. Typical starting points: Mono LCD: 25-40 seconds. Standard LCD: 50-70 seconds. Always check the resin manufacturer's recommendations.
Should I use a raft for all resin prints?
Not always, but rafts help with adhesion. Most slicers (Chitubox, Lychee) add a raft by default for supported models.
