Resin Not Curing

Elegoo 3D Printer (Resin)

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Resin not curing means the UV light is not hardening the liquid resin properly. The most common cause is exposure time set too low. Increase the normal layer exposure time and check that the LCD screen is working.

Affected Models

  • Elegoo Mars 4
  • Elegoo Mars 3
  • Elegoo Saturn 3
  • Elegoo Saturn 2
  • Elegoo Mars 4 Ultra

Common Causes

  • Normal layer exposure time too short
  • LCD UV screen degraded or failing
  • Old or contaminated resin
  • Resin temperature too cold (below 20°C)
  • FEP film scratched — scattering UV light

How to Fix It

  1. Increase normal layer exposure time by 1-2 seconds.

In Chitubox or Lychee slicer, look for 'Normal Exposure Time'. Typical resin printers: 2-4 seconds. If prints are soft, add 1-2 seconds and test.

  2. Run the LCD test from the printer's touchscreen menu.

Go to Tools → Test → LCD Test. You should see the entire screen light up uniformly white/purple. If any area is dark or dim, the LCD is failing and needs replacement.

  3. Warm the resin to at least 20°C before printing.

Cold resin cures poorly. In winter, place the resin bottle in warm water for 5-10 minutes before pouring.

  4. Replace the resin if it is old or has been exposed to light.

Resin begins to pre-cure if stored in bright rooms. Shake the bottle well before use. If it is cloudy or chunky, it is compromised.

  5. Check and replace the FEP film if heavily scratched.

Deep scratches scatter UV light and reduce curing. Hold the FEP up to a light source — if you see significant haze or scratches across the print area, replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if the LCD is the problem?

Run the LCD test from the printer menu. A healthy LCD shows a completely uniform bright purple screen. Any dark spots or dim areas mean the LCD is degrading.

How long do Elegoo LCDs last?

Mono LCDs typically last 2,000-3,000 hours of print time. If you print heavily and your LCD is over two years old, reduced curing may be a sign it needs replacement.
