Remote Control Not Working

LG Air Conditioner

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

If the LG AC remote is not working, replace the AAA batteries first. Aim directly at the indoor unit's receiver window from within 8 metres. If buttons are unresponsive, the remote may be in Child Lock or Hold mode.

Affected Models

  • LG Artcool Series
  • LG Dualcool Series
  • LG Standard Plus Series
  • LG DUALCOOL Premium

Common Causes

  • Dead or depleted AAA batteries
  • Remote in Child Lock or locked mode
  • IR receiver on indoor unit obstructed or dirty
  • Remote infrared LED damaged from being dropped
  • Interference from nearby electronics

How to Fix It

  1. Replace the batteries.

Open the back cover of the LG remote and replace the AAA batteries with fresh ones. Insert with the correct polarity as shown in the battery compartment. LG remotes use 2 x AAA batteries.

  2. Test with a phone camera.

Open your phone camera and point the front of the remote at the lens. Press a button and look for a white or purple flash — this confirms the infrared LED is transmitting. No flash means the remote is faulty or the batteries are dead.

  3. Aim directly at the indoor unit receiver.

LG indoor units have a small IR receiver window on the front face. Aim the remote directly at it from within 8 metres. Curtains, shelving, or decorative items between the remote and unit can block the signal.

  4. Check for Child Lock mode.

LG remotes have a Child Lock function. Look at the remote's LCD screen for a lock icon. Hold the lock button (or the combination shown in your manual) for 3–5 seconds to disable it.

  5. Clean the indoor unit IR receiver.

With the unit powered off, gently wipe the dark receiver window on the front face of the indoor unit with a dry cloth. Accumulated dust can reduce IR signal reception significantly.
