Flashing Light
Panasonic Air Conditioner
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
A flashing light on a Panasonic AC signals an error code. Count the number of flashes from the operation light on the indoor unit — the count directly corresponds to an error code (e.g. 11 flashes = H11, 27 flashes = H27).
Affected Models
- Panasonic Split System AC
- Panasonic Inverter AC
- Panasonic Etherea AC
- Panasonic NanoeX AC
Common Causes
- Error code being communicated via flash pattern
- Self-diagnostic routine running after restart
- Timer or schedule function flashing to indicate active programming
- Maintenance reminder for filter cleaning
- Protection mode triggered by high temperature or pressure
How to Fix It
-
Count the flashes carefully.
Panasonic uses the operation indicator light to flash error codes directly. Count every flash in one complete cycle, including any pauses within the cycle. On most Panasonic models the flash count equals the H or F code number (e.g. 11 flashes = H11).
-
Cross-reference with Panasonic error codes.
Once you have the flash count, look up the corresponding H or F code in the Panasonic service manual for your model. Common codes: H11 (communication fault), H12 (outdoor fan motor), H27 (outdoor fan rotation), F11 (indoor fan motor).
-
Power cycle the unit.
Switch off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes and restore power. If the flashing was caused by a transient protection event, the light will stop flashing and the unit will run normally.
-
Check the filter cleaning reminder.
Panasonic models flash the clean indicator light when the filter needs cleaning. This is separate from the operation light. Clean the filter and press the Filter Reset button on the remote to clear the reminder.
When to Call a Professional
If counting the flash pattern identifies a specific error code and a power cycle does not clear it, refer to the specific error code guide for Panasonic. Errors involving the outdoor unit, refrigerant, or compressor require a technician.
