Not Cooling

Panasonic Air Conditioner

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

If your Panasonic AC is running but not cooling, clean the air filter first. A blocked filter is the most common cause of reduced cooling on Panasonic split systems.

Affected Models

  • Panasonic Split System AC
  • Panasonic Inverter AC
  • Panasonic Etherea AC
  • Panasonic NanoeX AC
  • Panasonic Multi-Split AC

Common Causes

  • Clogged air filter blocking airflow over the evaporator
  • Mode set to Fan or Dry instead of Cool
  • Outdoor unit blocked or condenser fins clogged with dust
  • Low refrigerant from a slow leak
  • Compressor protection mode activated due to high outdoor temperature
  • Evaporator iced over due to restricted airflow

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the air filters.

Open the front panel of the indoor unit and remove the mesh filter panels. Rinse under running water and allow to dry completely. Panasonic recommends cleaning filters every 2 weeks during heavy use. A blocked filter halves effective cooling capacity.

  2. Verify Cool mode and temperature setting.

Press Mode on the remote until the snowflake icon appears. Set the temperature 3–5°C below the current room temperature. If the unit is in Auto mode and the room is already at the set temperature, it will not activate cooling.

  3. Inspect the outdoor unit.

Check that the outdoor unit has at least 30 cm of clear space around all sides. Remove any plants, fencing, or storage that has encroached on the unit. Hose down the condenser fins gently to clear dust.

  4. Check for ice on the indoor unit.

Frost on the refrigerant pipes near the indoor unit means restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Switch to Fan Only mode for 2 hours to defrost, then clean the filter and restart in Cool mode.

When to Call a Professional

If the filter is clean, the mode is correct, and the outdoor unit has unrestricted airflow but the AC still blows warm air, the system has a refrigerant or compressor fault — call a Panasonic-authorised HVAC technician.
