Not Cooling
Samsung Air Conditioner
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
If your Samsung air conditioner is running but not cooling, check the air filter first — a clogged filter blocks airflow and drastically reduces cooling capacity. Also verify the unit is set to Cool mode, not Fan mode.
Affected Models
- Samsung Wind-Free AC
- Samsung Split System AC
- Samsung Inverter AC
- Samsung Multi-Split AC
- Samsung Portable AC
Common Causes
- Clogged air filter reducing airflow through the evaporator
- Unit set to Fan or Dry mode instead of Cool mode
- Outdoor unit blocked by debris — reduced heat rejection
- Low refrigerant from a slow leak
- Outdoor temperature too high for the unit's rated capacity
- Compressor failing or not engaging
How to Fix It
-
Check and clean the air filter.
Open the front cover of the indoor unit and remove the filter panels. Rinse them under running water and leave to dry completely before reinstalling. A clogged filter reduces cooling by 20–40% and is the most common cause of poor performance.
-
Verify the operating mode.
Check the display or use the remote to confirm the unit is in Cool mode (snowflake icon). Fan mode circulates air without activating the compressor and will not cool the room. Also check the set temperature — it must be lower than the current room temperature.
-
Check the outdoor unit.
Inspect the outdoor unit for leaves, dirt, or debris blocking the condenser fins. Ensure there is at least 50 cm of clear space around the unit. Gently spray the condenser fins with a garden hose from the top to clean surface dirt.
-
Check for ice on the indoor unit.
If the indoor unit is icing up (visible frost or ice on the copper pipes), the system may be low on refrigerant or have severely restricted airflow. Switch the unit to Fan Only mode for 2 hours to defrost, then check the filter.
When to Call a Professional
If the filter is clean, the mode is correct, and the outdoor unit has clear airflow, but the AC still blows warm air, the system has lost refrigerant or the compressor is failing. Both require a licensed HVAC technician.
