Smoking

Cosori Air Fryer

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Cosori air fryer smoking is almost always caused by grease splatter on the heating element or accumulated residue inside the chamber. Unplug the unit immediately, allow it to cool, then clean the heating element and interior walls before the next use.

Affected Models

  • Cosori Pro II 5.8 Qt
  • Cosori Pro Gen 2 5 Qt
  • Cosori Dual Blaze
  • Cosori Smart WiFi Air Fryer
  • Most Cosori air fryer models

Common Causes

  • Grease or food residue on the heating coil — burns and smokes at high temperature
  • High-fat foods (bacon, sausage) splattering fat onto the element
  • New unit first-use residue — manufacturing protective coatings burning off on first run
  • Overcrowding the basket — food pressing against the heating element
  • Water or liquid added to the basket and evaporating rapidly at high heat

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug immediately and let it cool.

Do not move a smoking air fryer while hot — hot grease can spill. Unplug it and leave it undisturbed until fully cooled (at least 30 minutes). Open a window for ventilation.

  2. Clean the heating element.

Once cool, turn the fryer upside down to access the heating coil. Use a damp cloth or soft brush to gently wipe away any grease or food residue on the element. Never use abrasive pads on the heating coil — they can damage the coating.

  3. Clean the interior chamber and basket.

Wash the basket, crisper plate, and interior walls with warm soapy water. For baked-on residue, soak the basket for 10 minutes before scrubbing. Ensure everything is completely dry before reinserting.

  4. Add water to the drawer for fatty foods.

When cooking high-fat foods (bacon, fatty sausage), add 1–2 tablespoons of water to the bottom drawer beneath the basket. This catches dripping fat and prevents it from burning on the hot drawer floor.

  5. Run empty at 200°C for 5 minutes after cleaning.

After cleaning, run the Cosori empty at 200°C for 5 minutes to burn off any remaining residue or cleaning product. A little steam or smell during this run is normal. Let it cool again before cooking.

When to Call a Professional

If smoke continues even after thorough cleaning with no food in the basket, or you see sparks, unplug immediately and contact Cosori support. Do not use the fryer again until inspected.
