Food Undercooked / Insufficient Cooking

Philips Air Fryer

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Philips air fryer producing undercooked food is usually caused by overcrowding the basket, not preheating, or using a recipe developed for a conventional oven without adjusting the time and temperature. Reduce the batch size and increase cooking time by 20%.

Affected Models

  • Philips Airfryer XL
  • Philips Airfryer XXL
  • Philips 3000 Series
  • Philips 5000 Series
  • Philips Essential Airfryer

Common Causes

  • Basket overcrowded — blocks hot air circulation and creates cold spots
  • Preheat step skipped — food starts cooking in a cold fryer
  • Recipe from a conventional oven not adjusted for air fryer time and temperature
  • Frozen food not thawed or food placed too thick for the air fryer to cook through
  • Heating element partially failing — fryer not reaching the set temperature

How to Fix It

  1. Do not overcrowd the basket.

The Philips air fryer cooks by circulating hot air around the food. Place food in a single layer without stacking. For larger batches, cook in two or three separate rounds rather than cramming everything in at once.

  2. Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes.

Starting food in a cold fryer adds 3–5 minutes to the effective cook time. Set the fryer to the target temperature and run it empty for 3 minutes before adding food. Philips fryers with a preheat button will indicate when the temperature is reached.

  3. Increase time and temperature from oven recipes.

Air fryer cooking is faster and more intense than a conventional oven. A standard rule: reduce oven temperature by 20–25°C (about 35–45°F) and reduce time by 20–25%. For undercooked results, use the oven recipe temp directly without reduction and add time in 3-minute increments.

  4. Shake or flip the food halfway through.

On food that sits flat in the basket, the underside may cook differently than the top. Pause the fryer at the halfway point, shake the basket or flip the food, and resume. This ensures even hot air exposure on all sides.

  5. Use a meat thermometer to verify doneness.

Do not rely solely on visual cues — use an instant-read thermometer for meats and poultry. Chicken must reach 74°C (165°F) internally. If food consistently needs extra time beyond recipe guidelines, the fryer may not be reaching its set temperature accurately — contact Philips support.

When to Call a Professional

If the fryer takes significantly longer than expected to cook standard recipes and the basket is not overcrowded, the heating element may be weakening. Contact Philips support for an inspection.
