Wi-Fi Not Connecting
Blueair Air Purifier
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Blueair smart purifiers require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network — they do not support 5 GHz. During setup, connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz band before opening the Blueair app. If the purifier was previously connected and is now offline, re-pair it in the app after confirming it is within range of the router.
Affected Models
- Blueair HealthProtect 7470i
- Blueair Classic 480i / 605 / 680i
- Blueair DustMagnet 5440i
- Blueair Blue Pure 211+ Auto
Common Causes
- Phone on 5 GHz network during setup — Blueair requires 2.4 GHz
- Wi-Fi password changed since last pairing
- Router replaced or ISP provided new router — machine still trying to reach old network
- Machine out of Wi-Fi range
- Blueair app not updated — older app versions can fail to connect to machines with newer firmware
How to Fix It
-
Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network before starting setup. On most home routers, the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks have the same name — check your router's admin panel to identify or separate them.
If your router uses a single combined network name for both bands, try moving the machine and your phone closer to the router — routers often prefer 2.4 GHz for devices close to them.
-
Remove and re-add the purifier in the Blueair app. Go to app settings, select your purifier, choose Remove, then add it again using the Add device flow.
This is required whenever the Wi-Fi password changes or the router is replaced.
-
Reset the purifier's Wi-Fi settings. On most Blueair models, press and hold the Wi-Fi button (or a combination of buttons per your model's manual) for 5-10 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator flashes, then re-pair in the app.
The exact Wi-Fi reset procedure varies by model — refer to the quick start guide or the Blueair support site for your specific model number.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a Blueair purifier without the app?
Yes — all Blueair purifiers with physical controls work fully without the app. The app adds remote control, scheduling, air quality history, and filter life tracking, but is not required for the purifier to operate. Only smart auto-adjustment features require the app to be set up.
