Not Turning On
Dyson Air Purifier
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Check that the machine is firmly plugged in and the wall socket is switched on. If the socket is working, check whether Child Lock is active — on the remote, press the Child Lock button to toggle it off. Also check whether a Sleep Timer is set in the MyDyson app, which schedules the machine to turn off and not accept power-on commands until the timer period ends.
Affected Models
- Dyson Purifier Cool (TP07, TP09)
- Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool (HP07, HP09)
- Dyson Pure Cool Link (TP02, TP04)
- Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link (HP02, HP04)
Common Causes
- Child Lock enabled — prevents the machine from responding to button or remote presses
- Sleep Timer active — machine scheduled off and ignoring power-on commands
- Wall socket switched off or tripped circuit breaker
- Remote control battery flat — machine appears unresponsive
- Filter not seated correctly after a recent filter change — some models block startup as a safety measure
How to Fix It
-
Check the wall socket by plugging in another device. Try a different socket on a different circuit. Reset any tripped circuit breakers.
Extension leads and power strips can also fail — try plugging the Dyson directly into the wall socket.
-
Disable Child Lock. Press the Child Lock button on the remote (padlock icon) to toggle it off. A padlock indicator on the display confirms Child Lock is active.
Child Lock disables all physical controls on the machine and remote. The MyDyson app can also control the machine and disable Child Lock even when physical controls are locked.
-
Check the MyDyson app for an active Night mode or Sleep Timer. Cancel any scheduled timer and try powering on again.
Sleep Timer turns the machine off after a set period and can sometimes cause confusion if the machine turns off unexpectedly and will not respond.
-
Remove and reseat the filter. On some models, an improperly installed filter triggers a safety interlock that prevents startup.
Twist the base off, remove the filter, ensure the filter is the correct model for your machine, and reinstall firmly before attempting to start.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dyson shows a blinking light but will not start — what does it mean?
A blinking or flashing light pattern often indicates a fault code. Count the number of flashes and check the error code in your model's user manual or the Dyson support website. Common fault patterns indicate motor issues, sensor faults, or filter problems.
