Shark Air Purifier Filter Replacement Indicator — Fix

What Does This Error Mean?

The filter replacement indicator on a Shark air purifier lights up when the HEPA filter has reached its rated service life of approximately 6–12 months. Replace the filter, then press and hold the Filter Reset button for 3 seconds to clear the indicator. Shark Clean Sense models also track filter life in the Shark CleanSense IQ app.

How to Fix It

  1. Purchase the correct replacement HEPA filter for your Shark model. The model number is on the label on the bottom of the unit.

    Shark filter part numbers differ between models. Using the wrong filter model may not seat correctly and can leave gaps in the seal.

  2. Unplug the purifier. Remove the back panel or side access door depending on your model. Slide out the old HEPA filter and dispose of it.

    Some Shark models have a two-stage filter (pre-filter + HEPA combined). Others have separate filters — check the instructions in the box of your replacement filter.

  3. Insert the new filter, making sure the airflow direction arrow on the filter matches the arrow inside the housing. Replace the access panel.

    Installing the filter backwards significantly reduces filtration efficiency.

  4. Plug in and power on the purifier. Press and hold the Filter Reset button for 3 seconds until the indicator light turns off.

    On app-connected models (CleanSense IQ), also reset the filter life in the app: go to Settings > Filter > Reset Filter Life.
