Filter Reset
Winix Air Purifier
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
After replacing the Winix filter, hold the Filter Reset button for 3–5 seconds until the filter indicator light turns off. On most Winix models the reset button is labeled Filter Reset or has a filter icon — it may need to be held longer than you expect. If there is no dedicated reset button, hold the Mode button or the combination of buttons shown in your model's manual.
Affected Models
- Winix 5500-2
- Winix C545
- Winix AM90
- Winix HR900
- Winix Zero Pro
Common Causes
- Filter replaced but reset button not pressed — indicator is timer-based and does not self-clear
- Reset button held for too short a time — must be held for the full 3-5 seconds
- Incorrect button used — different Winix models have the reset on different buttons
How to Fix It
-
With the air purifier powered on, locate the Filter Reset button on the control panel. Press and hold it firmly for 5 seconds until the filter indicator light goes off.
Some Winix models have a small recessed reset button that requires a pen tip or paperclip to press. Check the control panel carefully — the label may be small.
-
If the dedicated Filter Reset button does not work, try holding the Mode button for 5 seconds. Some Winix models use the Mode button as a combined control/reset.
Refer to your specific model's user manual for the exact reset procedure — Winix has changed the reset method between model generations.
-
If the indicator still does not clear, power the unit off, wait 10 seconds, power it back on, and repeat the reset procedure. The unit must be fully powered on (not in standby) for the reset to work.
Holding the reset button while the unit is in standby or powering up will not register the reset on some models.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often does a Winix filter need replacing?
Winix recommends replacing the True HEPA filter every 12 months and the pre-filter every 3 months (the pre-filter can be vacuumed to extend its life). The activated carbon deodorisation filter should be replaced every 3 months or when odours are no longer being neutralised effectively.
