E26

Bosch Dryer

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

E26 on a Bosch dryer means the drum temperature has exceeded the maximum safe level. The dryer shuts off immediately to protect laundry and the appliance. The most common cause is a blocked lint system or a ventilation restriction.

Affected Models

  • Bosch WTW87565GB
  • Bosch WTH84000GB
  • Bosch WQB145B0GB
  • Bosch Serie 6 and Serie 8 Condenser Dryers
  • Bosch Heat Pump Dryers

Common Causes

  • Lint filter blocked — restricts airflow and traps heat inside the drum
  • Condenser unit heavily blocked with lint
  • Exhaust duct kinked or blocked (vented dryers)
  • Heater relay stuck on — element drawing power continuously
  • Temperature sensor fault causing the heater not to cut off at the right point
  • Overloaded drum — too much laundry restricts airflow

How to Fix It

  1. Do not restart the dryer immediately — allow it to cool for 30 minutes.

Running a hot dryer risks damaging laundry and the drum seal. Let the drum cool fully before opening.

  2. Clean the lint filter thoroughly.

Remove the lint filter and clean all lint from the mesh under running water. A blocked filter is the most common cause of E26.

  3. Clean the condenser unit.

Remove the condenser (usually behind a panel at the bottom of the dryer). Rinse under a tap until water flows through freely. A blocked condenser traps heat and triggers E26.

  4. Check the exhaust duct if it is a vented dryer.

A kinked, crushed, or blocked duct prevents hot air from escaping. The duct should be as short and straight as possible.

  5. Reduce the load size.

Overfilling the drum restricts air circulation. Bosch recommends filling the drum to no more than 75-80% capacity.

  6. If E26 returns after cleaning, call a Bosch technician.

A stuck heater relay or faulty temperature sensor requires professional diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can E26 damage my clothes?

Yes. Dryer overheating can shrink, scorch, or melt synthetic fabrics. Always allow the drum to cool before checking the laundry after E26. Delicate or synthetic items are most at risk.

How often should I clean the Bosch dryer condenser?

Bosch recommends cleaning the condenser every 1-2 months, or whenever the condenser indicator light appears. In households that do frequent laundry, clean it monthly.
