E28

Bosch Dryer

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

E28 on a Bosch dryer means the condenser unit has a severe blockage or airflow restriction. The dryer cannot circulate air properly and pauses to prevent overheating. Cleaning the condenser and lint filter almost always fixes E28.

Affected Models

  • Bosch WTW87565GB
  • Bosch WTH84000GB
  • Bosch WQB145B0GB
  • Bosch Serie 6 and Serie 8 Condenser Dryers
  • Bosch Heat Pump Dryers

Common Causes

  • Condenser unit blocked with lint — most common cause by far
  • Lint filter not cleaned regularly, allowing lint to reach the condenser
  • Fluff and debris bypassing a damaged lint filter and reaching the condenser
  • Condenser fins bent or damaged restricting airflow

How to Fix It

  1. Remove and clean the lint filter.

Pull out the lint filter, remove all lint, and rinse under running water. Allow it to dry or dry with a cloth before reinserting.

  2. Remove and thoroughly clean the condenser unit.

Open the condenser access panel (usually at the bottom front of the dryer). Remove the condenser and rinse it under a tap, front and back, until water flows through freely. Shake out excess water before reinserting.

  3. Clean inside the condenser housing.

Use a vacuum to remove lint from inside the condenser compartment. Lint that builds up in the housing restricts airflow even after the condenser itself is clean.

  4. Restart the dryer and check if E28 has cleared.

After thorough cleaning, E28 should not return. If it does, there may be a damaged lint filter allowing lint to bypass into the condenser — inspect the filter for tears or damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I clean the condenser on my Bosch dryer?

At minimum, clean the condenser every 1-2 months. If you do laundry daily or have pets, clean it monthly. The dryer will display a reminder when cleaning is due.

Can I put the Bosch dryer condenser in the dishwasher?

No — Bosch advises against dishwasher cleaning for the condenser. Rinse it under a tap by hand. Dishwasher detergents can damage the condenser fins and reduce efficiency.
