E33

Bosch Dryer

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

E33 on a Bosch dryer means the drum motor has overloaded and its thermal protection has tripped. This typically happens with an excessively large or heavy laundry load. Reduce the load size, allow the motor to cool, and restart.

Affected Models

  • Bosch WTW87565GB
  • Bosch WTH84000GB
  • Bosch WQB145B0GB
  • Bosch Serie 6 and Serie 8 Dryers

Common Causes

  • Load too heavy — motor cannot maintain drum rotation under excessive weight
  • Laundry tangled into a ball — uneven load creating peak torque demands
  • Drive belt tight or dry — creating extra resistance on the motor
  • Motor bearing starting to wear — increasing mechanical resistance

How to Fix It

  1. Open the dryer and remove some of the laundry.

Reduce the load by at least a third. Bosch recommends filling the drum no more than 75-80% for normal loads.

  2. Allow the motor to cool for 15-30 minutes before restarting.

The thermal protection inside the motor needs time to reset. Do not restart immediately — the motor needs to cool down.

  3. Shake out any tangled items before reloading.

A large tangled mass of laundry creates uneven load distribution. Shake each item out and reload loosely.

  4. If E33 appears with a normal load size, call a Bosch technician.

A motor with worn bearings will overheat even at normal loads. Early intervention can prevent a more expensive motor replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big a load can a Bosch dryer handle?

Bosch dryers are rated by kg of dry laundry — a 9 kg dryer can dry 9 kg of dry laundry per cycle. Cotton loads can fill the drum more fully; synthetics and delicates should be dried at half load to avoid tangling and overloading.
