E06

Bosch Oven

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

E06 on a Bosch oven means a heating element has failed or is drawing incorrect power. Bosch ovens contain multiple elements — a bottom element, top element (grill), and fan element — and any of these can trigger E06 when faulty. The oven will not heat until the faulty element is identified and replaced.

Affected Models

  • Bosch HBG Series
  • Bosch HBA Series
  • Bosch Series 4, 6 and 8 Built-In Ovens
  • Bosch HBN Series
  • Bosch HBS573BS0B

Common Causes

  • Heating element has burned through — the resistance wire inside the element has broken
  • Element connector loose or burnt — the terminal connecting the element to the wiring has failed
  • Element wiring short circuit — wiring insulation damaged by heat causing a short
  • Multiple elements showing E06 — control board fault causing incorrect power delivery to elements
  • Limescale or food spillage causing an electrical fault at the element surface

How to Fix It

  1. Switch the oven off at the wall and observe which functions work and which do not.

Try different cooking modes: fan oven, conventional (top and bottom), grill. If one mode works but another does not, this helps identify which element has failed — fan, bottom, or top.

  2. Inspect the visible bottom element for obvious damage.

The bottom element is a U-shaped bar on the floor of the oven cavity. Look for blistering, bulging, a crack, or a visible burnt section. A clearly burnt element confirms E06.

  3. Check for food spillage on or near any element.

Heavy spillage baked onto an element can cause a short or localised burnout. This does not fix itself — the element needs replacing and spillage cleaned up.

  4. Call Bosch service for element testing and replacement.

An oven element typically costs £15–50 depending on type (bottom, fan, grill). Total repair with technician labour is usually £100–220.

When to Call a Professional

Heating element replacement requires a qualified technician. Oven elements are connected to mains voltage — this is not a DIY repair. A technician will test each element's resistance to identify which one has failed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Bosch oven element be replaced without removing the whole oven?

Yes — on most built-in Bosch models, the bottom element is accessible from inside the oven cavity. The fan element at the back and the top grill element require the oven to be partially removed from the housing for access. A technician will know which approach is needed for your specific model.
