E08

Bosch Oven

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

E08 on a Bosch oven means the meat probe (also called the food thermometer or core temperature probe) has a fault. The probe is inserted into food to monitor its internal temperature during cooking. E08 appears when the probe is connected to the oven socket but is not reading correctly — or when it is damaged.

Affected Models

  • Bosch HBG675BS1B
  • Bosch HBG7764B1
  • Bosch Serie 6 and Serie 8 Built-In Ovens with probe socket
  • Bosch models with meat probe accessory

Common Causes

  • Meat probe damaged — the probe tip or cable has been overheated, kinked, or cut
  • Probe connector dirty or corroded — the jack socket inside the oven has grease or residue
  • Probe not fully inserted into the oven socket
  • Probe used outside its temperature range — left in the oven during a pyrolytic clean
  • Probe socket inside the oven faulty — socket contacts worn or damaged

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the meat probe from the oven socket and restart the oven.

If you are not using the meat probe, E08 should not appear. If E08 shows without the probe connected, the probe socket itself may be faulty.

  2. Clean the probe jack socket inside the oven cavity.

Use a dry cotton swab to gently clean inside the socket. Grease or food residue on the socket contacts causes false readings. Do not use water or cleaning spray inside the socket.

  3. Inspect the probe cable for damage — kinks, cracking, or burn marks.

The probe cable should not be pinched by the oven door or come into contact with heating elements. A damaged cable must be replaced — do not attempt to repair the wiring.

  4. Never leave the meat probe inside the oven during a pyrolytic self-clean cycle.

Pyrolytic temperatures destroy the probe. Always remove it before running a self-clean.

  5. If the probe is damaged, replace it with a Bosch-compatible probe.

Use the Bosch Home Connect app or bosch-home.com to find the correct probe for your model number.

When to Call a Professional

If the probe socket inside the oven is damaged, a technician is needed to replace it. For a damaged probe, simply purchase a compatible replacement Bosch meat probe (part available online or from Bosch). Contact Bosch if the socket itself appears faulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my Bosch oven normally after E08?

Yes — E08 only affects the meat probe function. All normal cooking modes (fan, grill, conventional) are not affected by E08. Simply unplug the probe and use the oven normally until you can replace the probe or fix the socket.
