E14

Bosch Oven

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

E14 on a Bosch oven means the moisture sensor (humidity sensor) has reported a fault. Bosch ovens with automatic programmes use the moisture sensor to detect when food is cooked by measuring steam released from the food. E14 does not prevent normal cooking — only automatic programmes are affected.

Affected Models

  • Bosch HBG Series with AutoPilot
  • Bosch Series 6 and 8 Built-In Ovens
  • Bosch HBN Series with humidity sensing

Common Causes

  • Moisture sensor contaminated by grease or food residue
  • Moisture sensor wiring connector loose
  • Sensor damaged by heavy steam during a previous cooking cycle
  • Control board fault causing an incorrect sensor reading

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the oven interior, especially around the moisture sensor.

The moisture sensor is typically a small probe at the top or side of the oven cavity. Wipe it gently with a damp cloth. Grease or food residue on the sensor causes false E14 readings.

  2. Run the oven self-clean cycle if it has pyrolytic cleaning.

The high heat of the pyrolytic cycle burns off residue from the sensor. After the cycle, E14 may clear.

  3. If E14 persists after cleaning, book a Bosch service visit.

The technician will test the sensor and replace it if faulty. You can continue using the oven for manual cooking programmes while waiting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still cook with E14 on my Bosch oven?

Yes. E14 affects automatic cooking programmes that rely on the moisture sensor (such as AutoPilot modes). You can still use all manual cooking functions — bake, grill, fan, and pyrolytic — without any restriction.

Where is the moisture sensor on a Bosch oven?

On most Bosch models, the moisture sensor is a small metal probe located at the top of the oven cavity, towards the back. It is usually visible without removing any parts.
