E18

Bosch Oven

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

E18 on a Bosch oven means a fault has been detected with the touch control panel or the display electronics. This is an interface board fault. A power reset sometimes clears it — if not, the control panel or display board needs to be replaced.

Affected Models

  • Bosch HBG Series
  • Bosch HBA Series
  • Bosch Series 6 and 8 Built-In Ovens with TFT display
  • Bosch PerfectRoast Series

Common Causes

  • Touch panel contamination — moisture or grease under the glass causing false touches
  • Interface board (display board) has failed
  • Wiring connector between the display board and main control board loose
  • Power surge damaged the display board
  • Software fault — display board firmware has become corrupted

How to Fix It

  1. Switch off at the wall for 10 minutes, then restore power.

A software fault or transient interference can trigger E18. A full power reset allows the display board to reinitialise.

  2. Clean the control panel surface.

Moisture or grease on a touch panel can cause phantom touches and E18. Wipe the panel with a dry soft cloth. Do not use wet cloths on touch panels.

  3. If E18 persists, book a Bosch service visit.

The technician will determine whether the fault is in the display board, the ribbon cable connection, or the main control board.

When to Call a Professional

Persistent E18 requires a Bosch technician. The display board is behind the control panel fascia — replacement is a professional repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the oven at all with E18?

If E18 completely locks the display, you cannot select functions. Some E18 occurrences are intermittent — the display works sometimes and shows E18 other times. Do not use the oven if you cannot confirm the set temperature and function.

Is E18 covered under the Bosch warranty?

Yes, if the oven is within the standard 2-year Bosch warranty. Display board faults are manufacturing defects covered by warranty. Contact Bosch with your model number and purchase date.
