E19
Bosch Oven
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
E19 on a Bosch oven means the fan heater element (the circular heating element around the fan at the back of the oven) has a fault. Fan bake and hot air functions are affected. Other functions such as conventional top-and-bottom heat may still work.
Affected Models
- Bosch HBG Series
- Bosch HBA Series
- Bosch Series 4, 6 and 8 Built-In Ovens
- Bosch HBN Series
Common Causes
- Circular fan element has burned out or broken
- Fan element wiring connector loose at the back of the oven cavity
- Thermal cutout protecting the fan element has tripped
- Control board relay for the fan element circuit has failed
- Fan element shorted against the oven liner
How to Fix It
-
Check whether conventional bake (top and bottom heat without fan) still works.
If conventional heat works but fan functions do not, the fan element is the confirmed fault. You can continue using conventional heat while waiting for repair.
-
Switch the oven off at the wall for 30 minutes.
A tripped thermal cutout may reset after the oven cools. If E19 clears and the fan element works again, it may have tripped due to prolonged high-temperature use.
-
Book a Bosch technician to test and replace the fan element.
The technician will use a multimeter to check the element for continuity. A broken element reads infinite resistance and needs replacement.
When to Call a Professional
E19 requires a Bosch technician to access the rear of the oven cavity and the element connections. This is mains-voltage work — do not attempt to replace the fan element yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if it is the fan element or the fan motor that has failed?
If you can hear the fan spinning but the oven is not heating on fan functions, the fan element has failed (E19). If the fan is silent when it should be running, the fan motor has failed (a different error code). You can check this by listening carefully when fan bake is selected.
How long does a Bosch fan element last?
A fan oven element typically lasts 8-15 years. Running the oven at maximum temperature frequently, or using pyrolytic self-clean many times, can shorten element life.
