E02

Bosch Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

E02 on a Bosch refrigerator means the fresh food (fridge) compartment temperature has risen above the safe level. This is a temperature alarm — food in the main fridge compartment may be at risk. Check the fridge door seal and thermostat setting immediately.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Series 4 Refrigerator
  • Bosch Series 6 Refrigerator
  • Bosch Series 8 Refrigerator
  • Bosch Benchmark Series Refrigerator

Common Causes

  • Fridge door left ajar or not fully closed
  • Door seal worn, cracked, or not seating properly
  • Fridge thermostat set too warm — adjust to 3-5 degrees C
  • Condenser coils dusty reducing overall cooling efficiency
  • Fridge packed too tightly — blocking air circulation inside
  • Compressor or cooling fan issue reducing cooling capacity

How to Fix It

  1. Check that the fridge door closes fully and the seal makes contact all the way around.

A worn door gasket lets warm air in constantly, preventing the fridge from maintaining temperature. Slide a piece of paper into the door seal — if it pulls out easily, the seal needs replacement.

  2. Check the temperature setting.

The recommended fridge temperature is 3-5 degrees C. If the thermostat was accidentally set too warm, adjust it and allow a few hours to stabilise.

  3. Reorganise the fridge contents.

Overpacking blocks airflow from the vents inside the fridge. Make sure the back vent inside the fridge compartment is not blocked by food containers.

  4. Check the condenser coils for dust buildup.

Dusty coils at the back or underneath the fridge reduce cooling capacity. Clean them with a vacuum brush attachment.

When to Call a Professional

If the fridge compartment does not cool down within 2-3 hours after checking the door and settings, call a Bosch technician. Persistent E02 can indicate a compressor or refrigerant issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

How warm is too warm for a fridge?

Food safety guidelines state that fridge temperature should stay at or below 5 degrees C (41 degrees F). Above 8 degrees C, bacteria multiply rapidly. If your fridge has been above 8 degrees C for more than 2 hours, discard high-risk items such as meat, fish, and dairy.

Can E02 appear just from opening the fridge door a lot?

Yes. On hot days with frequent door opening, the fridge temperature can rise enough to trigger E02. This is usually temporary — close the door and allow 30-60 minutes for the temperature to recover.
