E10

Bosch Washing Machine

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

The E10 error means your Bosch washing machine failed to fill with water in the allowed time. The machine waited for water to reach the correct level — but it never arrived. Something is blocking or restricting the water supply.

Affected Models

  • WAW285H2GB
  • WAN28080GB
  • WAT28400GB
  • Most Bosch front-load washing machines

Common Causes

  • The water supply tap behind the machine is closed or partially closed
  • The inlet hose is kinked, bent, or blocked
  • The inlet valve filter mesh is clogged with sediment
  • Low household water pressure — below 1 bar is too low for Bosch machines
  • The water inlet valve on the machine has failed

How to Fix It

  1. Check the water supply tap at the back of the machine.

Turn it fully counterclockwise (anticlockwise) to make sure it's fully open.

  2. Straighten the inlet hose if it's kinked.

A kinked hose severely restricts water flow. Pull the machine forward slightly to straighten the hose.

  3. Turn off the water supply and remove the inlet hose from the back of the machine.

Look for the small mesh filter inside the inlet fitting. Remove it and rinse it under a tap to clear any sediment.

  4. Turn off the programme dial and unplug the machine for 5 minutes.

A power reset clears any temporary fill timeout error.

  5. Turn the water supply back on, plug in the machine, and start a new 40°C cycle.

Listen for water entering the drum in the first 30 seconds. If you hear nothing, the inlet valve may be faulty.

When to Call a Professional

If the water supply is confirmed open and the hose is clear, the inlet valve may be faulty. Inlet valve replacement costs $50–$120 for the part, plus $80–$150 in labor. Do not run the machine repeatedly with E10 — the drum may tumble without water, damaging seals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What water pressure does a Bosch washing machine need?

Bosch machines typically require between 1 and 10 bar of water pressure. Below 1 bar, the inlet valve can't open wide enough to fill properly. If your home pressure is borderline, a plumber can measure and adjust it.

Where is the inlet valve filter on a Bosch washing machine?

It's a small plastic mesh screen inside the hose fitting at the back of the machine. Unscrew the inlet hose from the machine, and you'll see the filter inside the connection. Pull it out with needle-nose pliers, rinse it, and replace it.

Can E10 damage my Bosch washing machine?

If the drum runs dry without water, it can damage the door seal and drum bearings over time. Always resolve E10 before running the machine again. A no-fill condition is also hard on the motor in some models.
