Not Spinning

Bosch Washing Machine

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Bosch washers stop spinning most often because the load is unbalanced — redistribute the laundry evenly around the drum and run the spin cycle again. A single heavy item like a duvet or towel bunched on one side causes the machine to detect imbalance and abort the spin. If redistributing the load does not help, check that the door is fully latched — the machine will not spin with the door sensor showing open.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Series 2 Washer
  • Bosch Series 4 Washer
  • Bosch Series 6 Washer
  • Bosch Series 8 Washer
  • Bosch i-DOS Washer

Common Causes

  • Load imbalance — laundry has clumped on one side, causing the drum to vibrate excessively and the machine to abort spin
  • Door not fully latched — the door interlock sensor reports the door open and prevents drum rotation
  • Drain pump blocked — the machine cannot spin until the drum has drained completely
  • Spin speed set to 0 or a very low spin setting selected on the programme dial
  • Motor or motor brushes worn — the motor cannot reach spin speed (E07 or E08 error often present)

How to Fix It

  1. Redistribute the laundry

Open the door and pull out any clumped items. Spread the laundry evenly around the drum. Wash single heavy items like jeans or towels with a second item of similar weight to balance the load. Close the door and select a spin-only cycle.

  2. Check the door is fully latched

Push the door firmly until it clicks. A door that appears closed but has not engaged the interlock switch prevents the machine from spinning. If the door feels loose or the latch is worn, the interlock switch may need replacing.

  3. Check the spin speed setting

Confirm the selected spin speed is not set to 0 RPM or to a rinse-hold setting. Some programme options (Delicate, Wool, Hand Wash) default to a low spin speed or no spin. Change to 800–1200 RPM.

  4. Run a drain cycle first

If water is visible through the door, the machine cannot spin because the drum has not drained. Select a Drain or Spin programme to force a drain. If the water does not drain, clean the drain pump filter (accessed through the lower front panel).

  5. Clean the drain pump filter

Open the small access panel at the front bottom of the machine. Place a towel down and unscrew the filter cap slowly — water will spill out. Remove the filter, clean off any lint or debris, and refit. Run a spin cycle.

When to Call a Professional

If redistributing the load and checking the door does not restore spinning, and an error code like E07 or E08 is showing, the motor or motor module has failed — contact Bosch service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bosch washer drum fills with water but won't spin — why?

The machine fills correctly but stops before spinning, which means the drain or spin mechanism has a fault. Check the drain pump filter for blockages. Also listen for the drain pump running — if no drain sound is heard, the pump has failed.

Bosch washer starts spinning briefly then stops — why?

Brief spinning followed by stopping is the machine detecting imbalance and trying to redistribute. If it tries 3–4 times and still stops, the load is too unbalanced to correct automatically. Open the door, redistribute manually, and restart.

Bosch washer won't spin fast — stuck at low RPM — why?

Low spin speed only is usually the selected programme default. Check the spin speed setting. If spin speed is set correctly but the drum will not reach the selected speed, motor brush wear is the likely cause — check for an E07 error.
