Not Heating

Electrolux Dryer

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

An Electrolux dryer that tumbles but produces no heat is usually caused by a tripped or failed thermal fuse, a broken heating element, or the cycle being set to Cold or Air Dry. Check the cycle selector first — ensure it is not set to a no-heat programme. If the cycle is correct, the heating element or thermal fuse has likely failed.

Affected Models

  • Electrolux EDH3897GDE
  • Electrolux EDH3898GDE
  • Electrolux TWSL5E300
  • Electrolux EDC47130W
  • Electrolux EDC57130W

Common Causes

  • Cycle is set to Air Dry or Cold — these programmes intentionally use no heat
  • Thermal fuse (one-time safety device) has blown due to a past overheating event
  • Heating element coil has failed (shows as E64 error code)
  • Power supply issue — some dryers require both legs of a 240V supply to heat

How to Fix It

  1. Check the programme selector. Air Dry, Cold, or Iron Dry programmes on some models tumble without heat by design. Select a heated programme like Cotton or Synthetics.

  2. Check for any error code on the display — E61, E62, E64, or E66 all point to specific heating circuit faults. Look up the displayed code for the specific cause and fix.

  3. On vented models, check the circuit breaker or fuse for the dryer. Some 240V dryers use two breakers — if one has tripped, the motor runs but the heater does not.

Check your consumer unit for a double-pole breaker labelled Dryer. If one pole has tripped, reset both poles fully off then back on.

  4. Clean the lint filter and condenser. A blocked dryer may have tripped its thermal fuse — after cleaning, allow it to cool for 30 minutes and retry.

  5. If no error code shows and the cycle is set correctly, the thermal fuse or heating element has failed and requires a service visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Electrolux dryer was working this morning and now produces no heat — what happened?

A sudden loss of heat with no prior warning usually means the thermal fuse has blown. The thermal fuse is a one-time safety device that blows when the dryer overheats — it cannot be reset. Check and clean the lint filter and condenser, then have a technician replace the fuse and verify the airflow system is clear.
