OE
LG Washing Machine
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
OE on an LG washing machine means the machine failed to drain within the expected time. The most common fix is cleaning the debris filter at the bottom front of the machine. Also check that the drain hose is not kinked or too high.
Affected Models
- LG WM3900H
- LG WM4000H
- LG WT7300C
- LG WM3700H
- LG front-load and top-load washers
Common Causes
- Debris filter (pump filter) clogged with lint and small objects
- Drain hose kinked, bent, or crushed
- Drain hose installed too high — above 100 cm from the floor
- Drain pump impeller jammed by a coin or foreign object
- Drain pump motor failure
How to Fix It
-
Open the debris filter access door at the bottom front of the machine and clean the filter.
Place a towel under the door as water will flow out. Unscrew the filter cap counter-clockwise, clear all lint and debris, rinse thoroughly, and replace.
-
Check for a foreign object in the pump impeller inside the filter housing.
After removing the filter, shine a torch into the housing. Insert a finger or thin object to check if the impeller turns freely. Coins and underwire often jam it.
-
Inspect the drain hose for kinks and confirm it connects at a height of 60-100 cm.
A drain hose lower than 60 cm causes siphoning. Higher than 100 cm and the pump cannot push water out. Ensure there are no sharp bends in the hose.
-
Run a drain/spin only cycle to test.
Select Spin or Drain+Spin on the LG control panel. If water drains without OE, the issue was likely a one-off blockage now cleared. If OE reappears, the pump needs replacement.
When to Call a Professional
If the filter is clean, the hose is clear and at the correct height, but OE persists, the drain pump has failed. Contact LG support or a washing machine engineer.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I manually drain my LG washer showing OE?
Open the debris filter door at the bottom front of the machine and slowly unscrew the filter cap — water will drain out through the filter housing. Have plenty of towels ready as several litres may come out.
How often should I clean the LG washer debris filter?
LG recommends cleaning the debris filter every 2 months. If you wash frequently or have a household with pets, clean it monthly. Regular cleaning prevents OE and keeps drainage fast.
