UE

LG Washing Machine

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

LG UE means the laundry inside the drum is unevenly distributed and the machine stopped before the high-speed spin to prevent vibration damage. Redistributing the laundry and restarting the spin resolves UE in the vast majority of cases.

Affected Models

  • LG TurboWash series
  • LG F series front-loaders
  • LG V series front-loaders
  • LG Direct Drive series
  • LG WM series

Common Causes

  • Single heavy item sitting on one side of the drum
  • Very small load with one or two items that bunch together
  • Laundry tangled into a tight ball
  • Machine not perfectly level on the floor
  • Worn shock absorbers reducing the machine's ability to self-balance

How to Fix It

  1. Pause and redistribute the laundry.

Press Start/Pause to pause the cycle. Open the door and manually spread the laundry as evenly as possible around the inside of the drum. Unravel any tangled items. Close the door and press Start to resume. The machine will attempt the spin again.

  2. Add items for very small loads.

Washing one or two heavy items without other laundry almost always causes UE. Add 2–3 similar-weight items (towels with jeans, for example) to give the machine enough mass to balance. LG recommends a minimum load weight of approximately 1 kg for a spin to complete without UE.

  3. Check the machine is level.

Use a spirit level on top of the machine. All four feet should be in firm contact with the floor. Adjust by turning the front feet clockwise (lower) or anti-clockwise (raise). Lock each foot with the lock nut after adjusting. An unlevel machine cannot self-balance effectively.

  4. Select a spin-only programme.

If the main wash completed but the spin failed with UE, select a separate Spin programme from the programme selector. This lets you redistribute first, then start a fresh spin without repeating the wash.

  5. Check shock absorbers on older machines.

LG washers use shock absorbers to dampen drum movement during spin. On machines over 5–7 years old, these wear out and the machine struggles to balance even with a correct load. Worn shock absorbers produce excessive vibration and noise during spin. Shock absorber replacement is a service engineer repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my LG washer show UE but the load looks balanced to me?

LG's vibration sensors are sensitive — even a load that looks balanced can have a slight weight concentration on one side. Adding one or two extra items to fill the drum more evenly usually resolves it. Also check the machine is level — even a 5 mm tilt makes balancing much harder for the machine's self-correction algorithm.
