oE2
LG Washing Machine
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
The oE2 error means your LG washer has detected too much water inside the drum. The water level has exceeded the safe limit. The machine stops automatically to prevent flooding.
Affected Models
- WM3900HWA
- WM4000HWA
- WM3500CW
- WM2250CW
- Most LG front-load washers
Common Causes
- Faulty water inlet valve stuck in the open position, letting water flow continuously
- Failed water level pressure sensor (it cannot detect how full the drum is)
- Kinked or blocked pressure sensor hose giving inaccurate water level readings
- Clogged drain system preventing water from leaving, making the level rise
- Control board fault causing the inlet valve to stay open longer than it should
How to Fix It
-
Turn off the washer immediately and turn off the water supply valves behind the machine.
The hot and cold shut-off valves are on the wall behind the washer. Turn both clockwise to close them. This stops any more water from entering.
-
Unplug the washer from the wall outlet.
Do not attempt to drain or open the door with power on when there is a potential overflow situation.
-
Run a manual drain cycle if water is sitting in the drum.
Plug the washer back in, select Drain Only or Spin, and let it empty. Then unplug again.
-
Inspect the drain filter and drain hose for blockages.
A clogged drain can cause water to back up and trigger oE2 even if the inlet valve is fine. Clean the filter at the lower-front access panel.
-
Call a technician to test the water inlet valve and pressure sensor.
A stuck-open inlet valve will cause flooding if the washer is run again. Do not use the machine until this is confirmed resolved.
When to Call a Professional
The oE2 error is serious — it means your washer may overflow if left unaddressed. If the water inlet valve or pressure sensor needs replacing, call a technician. Do not run the machine again until the fault is diagnosed. Typical repair costs are $100–$250.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the oE2 error dangerous?
It can be — if the water inlet valve is stuck open and the drain cannot keep up, the washer will overflow. This can cause water damage to your floor and surrounding area. Turn off the water supply and unplug the machine immediately when you see this error.
What is the difference between oE and oE2 on LG washers?
The oE code is the general overflow or drain error. The oE2 code is more specific — it indicates the drum water level sensor has detected an overfill condition. Both require urgent attention, but oE2 specifically points to the fill and level sensing system.
Can I fix an oE2 error myself?
You can safely check and clean the drain filter yourself. However, replacing a water inlet valve or pressure sensor involves working with the water supply and internal components. For most people, this is a job for a licensed technician.
