F12

Miele Dishwasher

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

F12 means the dishwasher did not receive enough water in the fill time allowed. The water tap may be closed, the inlet hose may be kinked, or the inlet valve may be blocked.

Affected Models

  • Miele G4000
  • Miele G5000
  • Miele G6000
  • Miele G7000
  • Miele G4310
  • Miele G5310
  • Miele G7310

Common Causes

  • Water supply tap closed or only partially open
  • Kinked inlet hose
  • Blocked inlet filter/mesh at the back of the machine
  • Low water pressure in the house
  • Water inlet solenoid valve failed

How to Fix It

  1. Check that the water supply tap is fully open.

The tap is usually under the sink. Turn it counter-clockwise until it stops.

  2. Check the inlet hose for kinks.

Pull the machine out and inspect the hose at the back. Straighten any kinks.

  3. Clean the inlet filter mesh.

At the point where the hose connects to the machine there is a small mesh filter. Unscrew the hose (turn off the water first!) and clean the mesh under running water.

  4. Check your household water pressure.

Run a tap nearby. If flow is very weak, low house pressure is the cause — check with your water company.

  5. Test the inlet valve (engineer required).

If all the above checks pass, the solenoid inlet valve itself may have failed. An engineer can test it with a multimeter and replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions

My water pressure is fine but I still get F12 — why?

The inlet filter mesh is probably partially blocked. Even good house pressure cannot push water through a clogged mesh quickly enough. Clean the mesh first — this fixes F12 in many cases.
