F70

Miele Dishwasher

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

F70 means the Waterproof System has detected water in the base tray. The machine stops and drains as a safety measure. There is a real leak — do not run the machine until it is fixed.

Affected Models

  • Miele G4000
  • Miele G5000
  • Miele G6000
  • Miele G7000
  • Miele G4310
  • Miele G5310
  • Miele G7310

Common Causes

  • Door seal (gasket) cracked or worn
  • Leaking water inlet hose connection
  • Sump or spray arm housing cracked
  • Too much detergent causing foam overflow into base
  • Hose connection inside machine loose

How to Fix It

  1. Do not ignore F70 — this is a real water leak.

The Waterproof System uses a physical float switch. It does not trigger false alarms.

  2. Turn off the machine and the water supply tap.

    Isolate the water before investigating.

  3. Tilt the machine forward to drain the base tray.

Carefully lean the front of the machine down. Have towels ready — water will run out.

  4. Inspect the door seal.

Run your finger around the full rubber door gasket. Look for cracks, tears, hard spots (limescale buildup), or debris lodged in the seal groove.

  5. Check you are using the correct amount of detergent.

Too much detergent creates excess foam. Foam can overflow into the base and trigger F70 even without a mechanical leak. Use the recommended amount — usually one tab or 20–25ml of powder.

  6. Call a Miele engineer if the leak source is not obvious.

Internal hose connections and sump cracks require disassembly to inspect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can too much detergent really cause F70?

Yes — this is more common than people expect. Foam from excess detergent seeps through gaps in the tub and collects in the base. If you find no mechanical leak after F70, switch to a single detergent tab and run a rinse cycle.
