F22

Miele Washing Machine

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

F22 means the NTC temperature sensor has a fault or has failed completely. The machine cannot verify water temperature, so it stops as a safety measure.

Affected Models

  • Miele W1
  • Miele WDB020
  • Miele WDB030
  • Miele WCI320
  • Miele WCI860
  • Miele WDD030

Common Causes

  • NTC sensor failed (open or short circuit)
  • Wiring between sensor and control board damaged
  • Water ingress on the sensor connector
  • Control board fault (rare)

How to Fix It

  1. Reset the machine and try once more.

Turn off at the mains for 5 minutes. A temporary sensor glitch will clear with a full power reset.

  2. Check the NTC sensor wiring connector.

The sensor sits near the heating element at the bottom of the drum. Check for loose or corroded connectors — an engineer will do this.

  3. Test the NTC sensor resistance.

At 20°C, a healthy NTC reads approx. 1300–1500 Ohms. A dead NTC reads 0 Ohms (short) or OL/infinity (open circuit).

  4. Replace the NTC sensor if faulty.

This is a relatively inexpensive repair (the part costs around £10–20). Labour from a Miele engineer is the main cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is F22 the same as F21?

They are related but different. F21 is a general heating system fault. F22 specifically points to the NTC temperature sensor. Both affect the heating circuit, but F22 narrows down the cause.
