F30

Miele Washing Machine

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

F30 means the machine cannot drain water within the expected time. The drain pump filter is almost always the first thing to check — it's usually blocked with lint, coins, or debris.

Affected Models

  • Miele W1
  • Miele WDB020
  • Miele WDB030
  • Miele WCI320
  • Miele WCI860
  • Miele WDD030

Common Causes

  • Blocked drain pump filter
  • Kinked or blocked drain hose
  • Drain pump impeller jammed by foreign object
  • Drain hose positioned too high (siphon effect)
  • Drain pump motor failed

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the drain pump filter.

The filter is located at the bottom front of the machine behind a small cover. Place a towel and shallow tray underneath — water will come out. Unscrew the cap and remove any lint, coins, or debris.

  2. Check the drain hose for kinks.

Pull the machine out slightly and inspect the hose behind it. Straighten any kinks and ensure nothing is pinching the hose.

  3. Check the drain hose height.

The drain hose standpipe should be 60–100 cm above the floor. If it is too low, water siphons back into the machine.

  4. Check for a blocked household drain.

If your sink also drains slowly, the issue is in the household plumbing, not the machine.

  5. Test the drain pump directly (engineer required).

If the filter is clear and the hose is fine, the pump impeller may be jammed or the motor may have failed. You can often hear the pump running — if there is silence during the drain phase, the pump has likely failed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I clean the Miele pump filter?

Miele recommends cleaning it every 3 months. If you wash frequently or have pets, clean it monthly. A clean filter also extends pump life.
