F35

Miele Washing Machine

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

F35 means Miele's Waterproof System has detected water in the machine's base tray. The machine locks and drains as a safety precaution. There is a leak somewhere — this must be found and fixed before running again.

Affected Models

  • Miele W1
  • Miele WDB020
  • Miele WDB030
  • Miele WCI320
  • Miele WCI860
  • Miele WDD030

Common Causes

  • Leaking door seal (most common)
  • Leaking drum bearing seal
  • Cracked or split water inlet hose
  • Loose hose connection at back of machine
  • Detergent drawer seal worn (causes overflow into base)

How to Fix It

  1. Do not ignore F35 — there is real water in the base.

The Waterproof System is a physical float switch in the drip tray. It does not give false alarms — water is present.

  2. Turn off the machine and isolate the water supply.

Turn off the tap that feeds the washing machine. This prevents more water entering.

  3. Tilt the machine carefully to drain the base tray.

Lean the machine forward slightly — a small amount of water will drain from the front. Have towels ready.

  4. Inspect the door seal for cracks or debris.

The rubber door seal is the most common leak point. Look for visible tears, hard limescale deposits, or foreign objects (socks, underwire bras) caught in the seal.

  5. Check all hose connections at the back.

With the machine pulled out, check both the hot/cold inlet hoses and the drain hose connections. Tighten any loose jubilee clips.

  6. Call a Miele engineer if you cannot find the leak.

Internal leaks (drum bearing, tub crack) require professional diagnosis. Do not run the machine again until the source is found.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reset F35 without fixing the leak?

Technically yes — draining the base tray clears the float switch. But the machine will leak again immediately and F35 will return. Do not run the machine until the leak is repaired.
