CE

Samsung Washing Machine

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

CE on a Samsung washer means the motor is drawing too much electrical current. The machine shuts down automatically to protect the motor. Start by reducing the laundry load — overloading is the most common cause.

Affected Models

  • Samsung WF45R
  • Samsung WF42H
  • Samsung WF56H
  • Samsung WA50R
  • Samsung front-load and top-load washers

Common Causes

  • Drum overloaded with too much laundry
  • Worn or seized drum bearings creating mechanical resistance
  • Foreign object (coin, wire) jammed in the drum or pump area
  • Motor windings short-circuiting
  • Faulty inverter board on inverter-motor models

How to Fix It

  1. Reduce the load — remove items until the drum is about three-quarters full, then restart.

CE is most commonly caused by overloading. The motor draws extra current trying to turn a drum that is too heavy.

  2. Unplug the machine and spin the drum by hand to check for resistance.

Open the door and rotate the drum slowly. It should spin freely with no grinding or stiffness. Grinding indicates worn bearings; blockage indicates a foreign object.

  3. Check the debris filter at the bottom front of the machine.

Unscrew the filter cap (place a towel underneath first) and remove any coins, clips, or small items that could be causing mechanical resistance.

  4. Unplug for 10 minutes and restart to reset the motor protection circuit.

If the drum spins freely by hand, a power reset may clear a one-time overcurrent trip and allow normal operation to resume.

When to Call a Professional

If the drum spins freely by hand and the load is normal but CE persists, the motor or inverter board needs professional diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CE the same as 3E on Samsung washers?

No. 3E means the motor is not spinning at all. CE means the motor is attempting to spin but is drawing too much current — a different fault requiring different diagnosis.

Can ignoring CE damage my machine permanently?

Yes. Prolonged overcurrent can burn out the motor windings or damage the inverter board. Do not keep resetting and restarting without identifying the root cause.
