DC

Samsung Washing Machine

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

DC on a Samsung washing machine means the load became unbalanced during the spin cycle. It is similar to UE — open the door, redistribute the laundry evenly, and restart.

Affected Models

  • Samsung WF45R
  • Samsung WA50R
  • Samsung WF42H
  • Samsung WF56H
  • Samsung front-load washers

Common Causes

  • Laundry has shifted to one side of the drum during spinning
  • Single large or heavy item dominating one side of the drum
  • Machine not sitting level on the floor
  • Drum overloaded beyond rated capacity
  • Item caught between the door seal and drum

How to Fix It

  1. Press Pause, open the door, and spread laundry evenly around the inside of the drum.

DC appears when the drum detects weight imbalance during acceleration. Redistributing before the high-speed spin prevents recurrence.

  2. Check for any item trapped between the door gasket and the drum.

Small items (socks, underwear) occasionally get stuck in the door seal folds. Remove them to prevent imbalance and potential damage to the seal.

  3. Reduce the load by removing 2-3 items if the drum is fully packed.

An overfilled drum cannot tumble freely, so items do not distribute evenly. A 70-80% full drum balances better than a completely stuffed one.

  4. Level the machine if DC appears consistently on every spin cycle.

Adjust the four levelling feet so all make firm contact with the floor. A machine that rocks even slightly cannot pass the balance check at high spin speeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between DC and UE on Samsung washers?

Both indicate an unbalanced load — DC typically appears during or just before the spin cycle, UE usually appears after the machine has attempted and failed to rebalance. The fix is the same for both: redistribute the load.

My Samsung shows DC even with a balanced load — what is wrong?

If DC appears with an obviously balanced load, the machine is likely not level or the drum suspension springs have worn. Check levelling first. If DC persists on a clearly level machine with a small balanced load, a suspension spring or shock absorber may need replacement.
