NF1

Samsung Washing Machine

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

The NF1 error means your Samsung washer is not getting enough water — or no water at all — through the hot water inlet specifically. The machine waits for water to reach the right level and eventually gives up and shows this code. You will need to check your hot water supply and the inlet valve.

Affected Models

  • WF45R6100AW
  • WF45T6000AW
  • WF50R8500AV
  • WF42H5000AW
  • Most Samsung front-load washers

Common Causes

  • Hot water supply valve behind the washer is closed or partially closed
  • Hot water inlet hose is kinked or pinched
  • Inlet screen filter inside the hot water valve is clogged with sediment
  • Faulty hot water inlet solenoid valve not opening fully
  • Low water pressure from the home's hot water supply

How to Fix It

  1. Check that the hot water supply valve behind the washer is fully open.

The valve handle should be parallel to the pipe when open. If it is perpendicular, it is closed — turn it to open.

  2. Inspect the hot water inlet hose for kinks or sharp bends.

Gently straighten any kinks you find. If the hose is crushed or cracked, replace it.

  3. Turn off the hot water valve and disconnect the hot water hose from the back of the washer.

Have a towel and bucket ready — some water will drip out.

  4. Check the small screen filter inside the hot water inlet port on the washer.

Use needle-nose pliers to carefully pull out the filter screen. Rinse it under the tap to remove sediment, then reinsert it.

  5. Reconnect the hose, open the valve, and run a test cycle.

If the NF1 error persists, the inlet valve itself is likely faulty and needs professional replacement.

When to Call a Professional

If your water supply is fine and the hose is clear, the inlet valve solenoid may be defective. This part controls water flow electronically and can fail without warning. A technician can test it with a multimeter and replace it if needed. Expect parts and labor to cost $100–$180.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between NF and NF1 on a Samsung washer?

Both mean the washer is not filling with water. NF is a general water fill error. NF1 points specifically to the hot water inlet as the problem source. Check your hot water supply valve and hose first.

My hot water tap works fine — why is my washer showing NF1?

Even if your sink has hot water, the washer's inlet valve may be clogged or faulty. The small screen filter inside the inlet port commonly gets blocked by sediment over time. Remove and clean the filter — this fixes NF1 in many cases.

Can I run a cold-only cycle to bypass the NF1 error?

Some Samsung washers will allow a cold-water-only cycle while the hot inlet is blocked. However, this is not a permanent fix. You should still identify and resolve the hot water supply issue to use all wash settings properly.
