Air Link Not Working / Won't Connect to PC

Meta VR Headset

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Meta Quest Air Link fails most often because the Quest and PC are not on the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, or the Meta Quest Link app on the PC is outdated. Connect both devices to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (ideally via Ethernet for the PC) and update the Link app.

Affected Models

  • Meta Quest 2
  • Meta Quest 3
  • Meta Quest 3S
  • Meta Quest Pro

Common Causes

  • Quest and PC connected to different Wi-Fi networks or bands (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz)
  • PC connected to the router via Ethernet but on a different subnet than the Wi-Fi
  • Meta Quest Link app on PC not installed or out of date
  • Wi-Fi router too far from the Quest headset — too much latency for Air Link
  • Air Link not enabled inside the Quest headset settings

How to Fix It

  1. Connect both the Quest and PC to the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Air Link requires both devices on the same local network. Ensure the Quest headset is connected to the 5 GHz band of your router — not 2.4 GHz. If the PC is connected via Ethernet, confirm it uses the same router as the Quest's Wi-Fi connection.

  2. Enable Air Link in the Quest headset settings.

In the Quest, go to Quick Settings (clock area) > Settings > System > Air Link. Toggle Air Link on. With Air Link enabled and the Link app running on the PC, the PC should appear in the headset for pairing.

  3. Update the Meta Quest Link app on PC.

Open the Meta Quest Link app on the PC and check for updates. An outdated Link app is one of the most common causes of Air Link connection failures. After updating, restart both the app and the headset before retrying.

  4. Position the router closer to the play area.

Air Link requires a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal — the Quest should ideally be within 15 feet (5 metres) of the router with no thick walls between them. A weak signal causes Air Link to drop or refuse to connect. Using a Wi-Fi 6 router significantly improves Air Link stability.

  5. Temporarily disable the PC firewall for testing.

Windows Defender Firewall or third-party security software can block the Air Link connection between the PC and the Quest headset. Temporarily disable the firewall, test Air Link, and then re-enable it. If Air Link works with the firewall off, add the Meta Quest Link app as a firewall exception.

When to Call a Professional

Air Link is a software feature — no hardware repair is needed. If the Quest connects via wired Link cable but Air Link consistently fails, the issue is network configuration, not hardware.
