Not Charging / No Charge Indicator
Meta VR Headset
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Meta Quest not charging is usually caused by a faulty USB-C cable, a dirty charging port, or the headset battery being too deeply discharged to show a charge indicator immediately. Swap the cable, clean the port, and leave it charging for 30 minutes before checking again.
Affected Models
- Meta Quest 2
- Meta Quest 3
- Meta Quest 3S
- Meta Quest Pro
Common Causes
- USB-C cable faulty or charge-only (not data/power capable at sufficient wattage)
- Charging port on the headset dirty or has debris preventing contact
- Battery fully depleted — takes 15–30 minutes to show any charge indicator
- USB power adapter not delivering enough wattage (needs minimum 10W)
- Headset software crash preventing proper battery management
How to Fix It
-
Try a different USB-C cable and adapter.
Not all USB-C cables support adequate charging power. Use the cable and adapter that came with the Quest, or a USB-C cable that supports at least 10W charging. A cable that works for phones may not deliver sufficient power for the Quest headset.
-
Clean the USB-C charging port.
Use a dry toothpick or compressed air to carefully remove any lint, dust, or debris from the USB-C port on the headset. Do not use metal objects or liquids. A partially blocked port prevents the cable from making a full electrical connection.
-
Wait 30 minutes after plugging in.
A fully depleted Meta Quest battery may take 15–30 minutes before the orange charging LED activates or any charge indicator appears on screen. Leave the headset connected to power and do not interrupt the connection. Check again after 30 minutes.
-
Restart the headset.
Hold the power button for 10 seconds until the headset powers off. With it powered off but still connected to the charger, wait 2 minutes. Power it back on and check whether the battery icon shows charging. A software crash can stop battery management from running correctly.
-
Use a wall adapter, not a PC USB port.
Charging from a computer USB port delivers far less power than a wall adapter. Some PC USB ports output only 2.5W, which is not enough to charge a Meta Quest headset. Always use a USB-C wall adapter rated at 10W or higher for reliable charging.
When to Call a Professional
If the charging port is physically damaged, bent, or has broken pins, the port needs professional repair. Contact Meta Support or visit a Meta-authorized repair centre.
