PC Link Not Working

Meta VR Headset

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Meta Quest Link (wired or Air Link) fails to connect most often because the Meta Quest app on PC is outdated, the USB cable isn't data-capable, or Air Link isn't on the same 5GHz Wi-Fi network as the PC.

Affected Models

  • Meta Quest 2
  • Meta Quest 3
  • Meta Quest 3S
  • Meta Quest Pro

Common Causes

  • Meta Quest app on PC not installed or outdated
  • USB cable is charge-only (not data-capable) for wired Link
  • Air Link: PC and Quest on different Wi-Fi networks or bands
  • Air Link: PC connected via Ethernet but on a different subnet than the Quest's Wi-Fi
  • Graphics driver outdated on the PC
  • Link not enabled in Quest headset settings

How to Fix It

  1. Install or update the Meta Quest app on PC.

Download from meta.com/quest/setup. Link requires the Meta Quest PC app — it does not work without it.

  2. For wired Link: use a USB 3.0 data cable.

Many USB-C cables are charge-only with no data lines. You need a USB 3.0 cable capable of data transfer. Meta sells an official Link Cable — third-party USB 3.0 cables also work.

  3. For Air Link: connect both PC and Quest to the same 5GHz Wi-Fi network.

5GHz is required for Air Link — 2.4GHz is too slow. Both the PC (or the router it's connected to) and the Quest must be on the same network. If your PC is on Ethernet, it must be on the same router/subnet as the Quest's Wi-Fi.

  4. Enable Link in the Quest headset settings.

On the Quest: Settings → System → Quest Link → Enable Quest Link. Then select Air Link or connect the cable and select the PC from the list.

  5. Update GPU drivers on the PC.

Outdated Nvidia or AMD drivers cause Link connection failures. Update via GeForce Experience (Nvidia) or AMD Adrenalin (AMD).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Link and Air Link?

Link = wired connection via USB cable to PC. Air Link = wireless connection over Wi-Fi to PC. Both let you play PC VR games (Steam VR, etc.) on the Quest. Wired Link has lower latency; Air Link is more convenient but requires a strong 5GHz Wi-Fi signal.

Does Air Link work with any PC?

Your PC needs a compatible GPU (Nvidia GTX 970 / AMD RX 470 or newer) and the Meta Quest PC app installed. Check meta.com/quest/setup for the full PC requirements.
