Stuck on Logo / Boot Loop

Meta VR Headset

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

A Meta Quest stuck on the logo during startup usually means a failed firmware update or corrupted system files. Booting into recovery mode and selecting Reboot or Factory Reset fixes most cases.

Affected Models

  • Meta Quest 2
  • Meta Quest 3
  • Meta Quest 3S
  • Meta Quest Pro

Common Causes

  • Firmware update interrupted mid-install (power loss or shutdown)
  • Corrupted system partition
  • Low battery during an update
  • Software conflict after a beta update
  • Hardware fault (rare)

How to Fix It

  1. Hold the power button for 30 seconds.

This forces a complete power-off even if the system is frozen. Wait 10 seconds then power on normally.

  2. Charge the headset fully before trying again.

If the battery died during a firmware update, finish charging to 100% before rebooting. A full battery ensures the update can complete if it resumes.

  3. Boot into recovery mode.

Hold Power + Volume Down together until the boot menu appears on screen. Navigate with the volume buttons, select with the power button.

  4. In recovery mode, select Reboot System Now.

This attempts a clean reboot. Try this before factory reset — it sometimes clears a stuck boot.

  5. If still stuck: select Factory Reset in recovery mode.

Factory reset wipes all data and reinstalls the OS from recovery. You will lose all locally stored games and settings — your purchases are tied to your Meta account and can be re-downloaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will factory reset delete my purchased games?

No — your game purchases are linked to your Meta account, not the device. After a factory reset and logging back in, all your purchased games can be re-downloaded from the Meta Store.
