Wi-Fi Not Connecting

Meta VR Headset

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Wi-Fi issues on Meta Quest are usually caused by connecting to 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz, incorrect password, or the router needing a restart. Connect to 5GHz for best performance.

Affected Models

  • Meta Quest 2
  • Meta Quest 3
  • Meta Quest 3S
  • Meta Quest Pro

Common Causes

  • Connecting to 2.4GHz band — 5GHz is strongly recommended
  • Incorrect Wi-Fi password
  • Router firmware or DHCP issue not assigning an IP
  • WPA3 security mode incompatible with Quest (use WPA2)
  • Too many devices on the network
  • Quest Wi-Fi hardware fault (rare)

How to Fix It

  1. Connect to your router's 5GHz network.

The 5GHz band has more bandwidth and less interference. Most modern routers broadcast two networks — look for one ending in _5G or 5GHz.

  2. Double-check the Wi-Fi password.

Passwords are case-sensitive. If your router uses WPS, you can also connect by pressing the WPS button on the router.

  3. Restart the router.

Turn the router off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on. Wait for it to fully reboot before trying to connect the Quest.

  4. Set router security to WPA2 (not WPA3).

Some Quest models have compatibility issues with WPA3 security. In your router admin settings, set Wi-Fi security to WPA2-AES or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode.

  5. Forget the network and reconnect.

On the Quest: Settings → Wi-Fi → select the network → Forget. Then reconnect by selecting the network and entering the password.
