P2627

OBD-II Diagnostic Code

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

P2627 means the wideband oxygen sensor's pumping current circuit on Bank 1 Sensor 1 has an open circuit. The sensor cannot measure air-fuel ratio accurately. The sensor or its wiring is likely faulty.

Affected Models

  • Vehicles with wideband/air-fuel ratio sensors
  • Common on modern direct-injection engines

Common Causes

  • Wideband O2 sensor failed
  • Sensor wiring open circuit
  • Sensor connector disconnected or corroded
  • ECM sensor driver circuit fault

How to Fix It

  1. Check the O2 sensor connector.

The sensor is upstream of the catalytic converter on Bank 1. Check the connector for corrosion or disconnection.

  2. Test sensor wiring continuity.

Wideband sensors have 5-6 wires. Check each for continuity between the sensor and ECM.

  3. Replace the wideband O2 sensor.

Wideband sensors are more expensive than traditional O2 sensors ($80-$200) but are a common replacement part.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a wideband O2 sensor?

A wideband sensor measures the exact air-fuel ratio (not just rich/lean like traditional sensors). It is more accurate and used on modern engines for precise fuel control.

Can I use a traditional O2 sensor as a replacement?

No. Wideband sensors and traditional narrowband sensors are not interchangeable. Always use the correct sensor type for your vehicle.
