Two-Way Audio Not Working
Arlo Baby Monitor (Camera)
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Arlo Baby two-way audio not working is usually a microphone permission denied on your phone, or a network latency issue. Grant microphone access to the Arlo app and make sure both devices have a strong connection.
Affected Models
- Arlo Baby (ABC1000)
Common Causes
- Microphone permission not granted to the Arlo app on your phone
- Network latency too high — audio feed drops
- Camera speaker muted or volume set to zero in the app
- Phone case covering the microphone
- Arlo app bug — resolved by update
How to Fix It
-
Grant microphone permission to the Arlo app.
iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Arlo (must be ON). Android: Settings → Apps → Arlo → Permissions → Microphone → Allow.
-
Check the speaker volume on the camera in the Arlo app.
In the live view, look for the speaker icon. Make sure it is not muted and the volume is turned up on the camera side.
-
Check your phone's microphone is not obstructed.
Some phone cases block the microphone at the bottom of the phone. Remove the case and test two-way audio again.
-
Test on a stronger Wi-Fi connection.
Two-way audio is more sensitive to latency than video. Move your phone closer to the router or switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi for testing.
-
Update the Arlo app and power cycle the camera.
Update the Arlo app in the App Store or Play Store. Then unplug the Arlo Baby camera for 10 seconds and plug it back in.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can both parents talk through the Arlo Baby camera at the same time?
No. Two-way audio is half-duplex — only one person can speak at a time. Both parents can have the app open, but only one active talkback session runs at once.
Why does my voice sound delayed or choppy to the baby?
This is a Wi-Fi latency issue. Try moving the camera closer to the router. If the delay is consistent, check if other devices on your network are streaming video, which can consume bandwidth.
