Night Vision Not Working
eufy Baby Monitor
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Night vision activates automatically when the room gets dark — if the room has any light source (night light, standby LED), the camera stays in colour mode. Check the Night Vision setting: eufy app → camera → Settings → Night Vision → Auto or On. If the image is completely black, the IR LED illuminators may be blocked by a protective film on the camera lens.
Affected Models
- eufy SpaceView Pro
- eufy Baby Monitor E110
- eufy S340 Baby Monitor
- eufy Video Baby Monitor (2.4K)
- eufy Babyphone with Camera
Common Causes
- Night Vision mode set to Off in camera settings
- Room not dark enough to trigger automatic night vision activation
- Protective plastic film still on the camera lens blocking the IR sensor
- IR LED illuminators blocked by the camera placement (too close to a wall)
- Camera firmware issue preventing night mode from switching
How to Fix It
-
Check Night Vision setting in the app
eufy Security app → select the camera → Settings (gear icon) → Night Vision → set to Auto. In Auto mode, the camera switches to night vision when light drops below a threshold.
-
Make the room darker
eufy cameras switch to night vision when ambient light drops below approximately 5 lux. A night light, hallway light under the door, or a standby LED may be keeping the sensor in colour mode. Block the light source temporarily to test.
-
Remove any protective film from the lens
New cameras often ship with a plastic protective film over the lens and IR sensors. Peel off any film — it blocks the IR illuminators and the light sensor.
-
Check the camera's placement
Mount the camera at least 20 cm from any wall. Placing the camera too close to a wall causes the IR light to reflect back into the sensor, washing out the night image.
-
Restart and update the camera
Unplug the camera for 10 seconds, plug back in. Then check for firmware updates: eufy app → Devices → camera → Settings → Software Update. Firmware updates fix known night vision switching bugs.
When to Call a Professional
If the IR LEDs (small red dots visible around the lens) do not glow faintly in the dark, they have failed — contact eufy support for a replacement under warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
eufy baby monitor shows grainy black-and-white image at night — is this normal?
Yes — night vision uses infrared illumination which produces a greyscale image. Some graininess in very dark rooms is normal. If the image is extremely grainy, the IR LEDs may be weak — check the distance: eufy IR night vision works best within 5 metres.
eufy camera switches between colour and night vision repeatedly — why?
The light level in the room is near the switching threshold, causing the sensor to toggle. Either make the room slightly brighter (colour mode) or remove all light sources (night mode). A night light positioned away from the camera can stabilise this.
eufy baby monitor night vision range — how far can it see?
eufy baby monitors typically have an IR night vision range of 3–5 metres depending on the model. Beyond 5 metres, the IR illuminators are too weak to light the subject — the image will appear very dark.
