Audio Not Working

Infant Optics Baby Monitor

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Infant Optics baby monitor audio not working is usually caused by the volume being turned to zero, VOX mode keeping the speaker muted until sound is detected, or the parent unit speaker having a fault. Check the volume setting first — press the volume up button on the parent unit and ensure the level indicator is above zero.

Affected Models

  • Infant Optics DXR-8
  • Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO

Common Causes

  • Volume set to zero on the parent unit
  • VOX mode active — audio is muted until the camera detects sound above the threshold
  • Sound Activation threshold set too high — quiet baby sounds not triggering the speaker
  • Parent unit speaker failed or has debris blocking the grille
  • Connection between camera and parent unit dropped — no data to transmit audio

How to Fix It

  1. Turn up the volume on the parent unit.

Press the volume up button (usually the up arrow on the side or top of the parent unit) repeatedly. The volume level is shown on screen. Even if you believe the volume is already at a high level, check the on-screen indicator to confirm.

  2. Check whether VOX mode is active and adjust the threshold.

VOX (Voice Activation) mode keeps the speaker silent until the camera detects sound. Press Menu → VOX → check whether it is enabled. If enabled, you can lower the sensitivity threshold so quieter sounds activate the speaker. Setting VOX to Off plays audio continuously.

  3. Verify the connection between camera and parent unit.

No audio also occurs when the connection between units is lost. Check the signal strength bars on the parent unit screen. If zero bars or 'Out of Range' is showing, the audio signal is not being received — restore the connection first.

  4. Listen for audio through headphones.

The DXR-8 parent unit has a headphone jack (3.5mm). Plug in a pair of earphones. If audio is present through the earphones but not the speaker, the speaker itself has failed. If no audio in earphones either, the issue is with the signal or audio processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use VOX mode or continuous audio mode on the Infant Optics DXR-8?

VOX mode saves battery and reduces background noise — it activates only when the baby makes sound. Continuous mode plays all room audio constantly. For newborns or light sleepers, many parents prefer continuous mode so they don't miss quiet sounds.

Why does the Infant Optics DXR-8 audio have a crackling or static sound?

Crackling audio usually means interference from nearby Wi-Fi equipment or a partially lost connection. Try moving the router further from both units and ensure the signal strength is at least 2 bars on the parent unit display.
