Connection Lost

Infant Optics Baby Monitor

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Infant Optics DXR-8 connection lost means the parent unit cannot receive the video signal from the camera unit. Move the parent unit closer to the camera, ensure both units are powered on, and power cycle both devices. Walls, floors, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi routers placed between the units are the most common causes of signal loss.

Affected Models

  • Infant Optics DXR-8
  • Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO

Common Causes

  • Parent unit out of range — DXR-8 range is up to 700 feet (line of sight) but much less through walls
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi router or cordless phone interfering with the FHSS signal
  • Battery on the parent unit too low — connection drops before the low battery alert
  • Camera and parent unit not on the same channel — lost pairing
  • Physical obstruction: concrete walls, microwaves, or large metal appliances between units

How to Fix It

  1. Move the parent unit closer to the camera.

Start by placing the parent unit in the same room as the camera to confirm the connection works at short range. If it connects nearby but drops at distance, the signal is being blocked or attenuated between the rooms.

  2. Power cycle both units.

Turn off the camera by unplugging it, and turn off the parent unit. Wait 30 seconds. Plug the camera back in first and wait for it to start (LED steady), then turn on the parent unit. This often clears a lost connection.

  3. Move the Wi-Fi router away from the camera or parent unit.

The DXR-8 uses the 2.4 GHz FHSS band — the same frequency as most home Wi-Fi routers. If the router is within 1 metre of either unit, it can cause interference. Increase the distance between the router and the baby monitor to at least 1–2 metres.

  4. Re-pair the camera to the parent unit.

On the parent unit: Menu → Camera → Add Camera. On the camera: press and hold the PAIR button (small button on the back) until the LED flashes. Follow the pairing instructions on the parent unit screen. This resets the channel assignment.

  5. Check the camera power supply.

If the camera power adapter is not delivering the correct voltage (5V/1A), the camera may power on but transmit a weak signal. Use the original Infant Optics power adapter — third-party adapters with lower current ratings can cause intermittent connection issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Infant Optics DXR-8 work through multiple floors?

The DXR-8 will work through floors but range is reduced significantly. One concrete floor can reduce usable range from 700 feet to 50–100 feet. Position the parent unit and camera as close together vertically as possible for reliable multi-floor use.

Can I add a second camera to the Infant Optics DXR-8?

Yes. The DXR-8 parent unit supports up to 4 cameras. Go to Menu → Camera → Add Camera on the parent unit, then put the additional camera in pairing mode. Each camera can be viewed individually or in scan mode.
