Connection Lost
Motorola Baby Monitor
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Frequent connection drops mean the wireless signal between the camera and parent unit is unstable. This is usually caused by interference, distance, or a weak battery. Reduce the distance between units and eliminate sources of interference.
Affected Models
- Motorola MBP50
- Motorola VM65
- Motorola VM85
- Motorola Ease 44
- Most Motorola baby monitors
Common Causes
- Intermittent wireless interference
- Units at the edge of their range
- Parent unit battery too low to maintain connection
- Camera unit overheating and dropping connection
- Firmware bug causing periodic disconnects
How to Fix It
-
Move the units closer together.
If the units are near the edge of their range, the connection will drop intermittently. Reduce the distance and see if drops stop.
-
Move both units away from Wi-Fi routers and cordless phones.
2.4 GHz interference causes intermittent drops. Keep at least 3 feet from any other wireless device.
-
Charge the parent unit fully.
Low battery can cause the wireless radio to weaken, dropping the connection.
-
Make sure the camera is not overheating.
Touch the camera. If it is very hot, it may be shutting down its radio periodically. Move it to a cooler location away from direct sunlight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the connection drop at the same time every day?
A neighbour may be using a device on the same frequency at that time (like a baby monitor or cordless phone). Try changing the channel on your monitor.
Do Wi-Fi baby monitors have fewer connection drops?
Not necessarily. Wi-Fi monitors are affected by Wi-Fi congestion. DECT monitors use a dedicated frequency with less interference. Both types can have connection issues depending on the environment.
