Won't Charge

Motorola Baby Monitor

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

If the Motorola parent unit will not charge, check the power adapter, charging contacts, and battery. After 1-2 years of daily use, rechargeable batteries degrade and may need replacement.

Affected Models

  • Motorola MBP50
  • Motorola VM65
  • Motorola VM85
  • Motorola Ease 44
  • Most Motorola video baby monitors

Common Causes

  • Power adapter disconnected or faulty
  • Charging contacts dirty
  • Rechargeable battery worn out
  • Parent unit not properly seated in cradle
  • Power outlet switched off

How to Fix It

  1. Check the power adapter connection.

Make sure the adapter is firmly plugged into the parent unit and the wall outlet. Try a different outlet.

  2. Clean the charging contacts.

Wipe the metal contacts on the parent unit and the charging cradle with a dry cloth.

  3. Try charging directly with the cable (without the cradle).

If the unit charges with the cable but not the cradle, the cradle contacts are the problem.

  4. Replace the battery if it is older than 1-2 years.

Rechargeable batteries degrade with daily charge cycles. Check your manual for the battery type and replace with the same specification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the monitor while it charges?

Yes. Most Motorola monitors work while plugged in and charging. You can monitor continuously while the parent unit charges.

How long does a full charge last?

Typically 4-8 hours depending on the model and whether the screen is on. With screen off (audio only), battery life is much longer.
