Camera Not Recording

Nanit Baby Monitor (Camera)

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Nanit not recording means sleep tracking sessions are not being saved. This could be a subscription issue (Insights requires a plan), a WiFi dropout, or a settings issue. Check your subscription status and WiFi connection.

Affected Models

  • Nanit Pro
  • Nanit Plus

Common Causes

  • Nanit Insights subscription expired or not active
  • WiFi dropped during the recording session
  • Camera firmware needs updating
  • App settings for sleep tracking not enabled
  • Cloud storage full (unlikely but possible)

How to Fix It

  1. Check your Nanit subscription status.

Recording and sleep insights require a Nanit subscription. Check in the app: Settings > Subscription.

  2. Check WiFi stability.

Nanit records to the cloud, so WiFi must be stable throughout the night. If WiFi drops, recording gaps occur.

  3. Make sure sleep tracking is enabled.

In the app: Settings > Sleep Tracking > make sure it is on.

  4. Update the camera firmware.

App > Camera Settings > check for firmware updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Nanit record without a subscription?

The camera streams live video for free. But recording, sleep tracking, and insights require the Nanit Insights subscription ($8-$24/month).

Where are recordings stored?

In the Nanit cloud. There is no local recording. This means WiFi is required for any recording.
