Sound Alerts Not Working

Nanit Baby Monitor (Camera)

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Nanit sound alerts not working is usually caused by notifications being disabled in the Nanit app settings, the phone's Do Not Disturb mode blocking alerts, or the notification permission being denied for the Nanit app. Check both the Nanit app alert settings and the phone's notification permission for the app.

Affected Models

  • Nanit Pro
  • Nanit Plus

Common Causes

  • Nanit app push notifications disabled in phone Settings → Apps → Nanit → Notifications
  • Phone in Do Not Disturb (DND) mode blocking all app notifications
  • Sound alerts turned off in the Nanit app — separate from motion alerts
  • Nanit Insights subscription lapsed — some alert types require a subscription
  • Nanit app running in background suspended by the phone's battery saver

How to Fix It

  1. Check notification permission for the Nanit app.

iPhone: Settings → Nanit → Notifications → Allow Notifications must be On. Android: Settings → Apps → Nanit → Notifications → ensure all notification categories are enabled. Without permission, no alerts can be delivered.

  2. Check Do Not Disturb settings.

iPhone: Settings → Focus → Do Not Disturb → check if Nanit is allowed through. Android: Settings → Digital Wellbeing → Do Not Disturb → check that Nanit is in the exceptions list. DND blocks all non-excepted app notifications.

  3. Check alert settings inside the Nanit app.

Open the Nanit app → Settings (gear icon) → Camera Settings → Alerts. Confirm Sound Alerts and any other alert types you want are enabled. The sensitivity slider controls how loud a sound must be before an alert is sent.

  4. Allow background app refresh (iPhone) or disable battery optimisation (Android).

iPhone: Settings → General → Background App Refresh → Nanit → On. Android: Settings → Battery → Battery Optimization → find Nanit → set to Not Optimized (or Unrestricted). This prevents the phone from suspending the Nanit app in the background.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I get Nanit alerts on one phone but not another?

Each phone has its own notification permission settings. Check the notification settings on the phone that is not receiving alerts — the permission may have been denied during app installation on that device.

Can multiple caregivers receive Nanit alerts on their phones?

Yes. Share access to the Nanit camera by going to the Nanit app → Settings → Invite Viewer. Added viewers can receive live view access and alerts on their own phones with their own notification settings.
