Stand Unstable

Nanit Baby Monitor (Camera)

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Nanit stand instability is a safety concern — an unstable stand near a crib can fall onto the baby. Ensure all stand joints are fully clicked or screwed to the locked position, the base is placed on a firm flat surface, and the cable is routed so it cannot be pulled by the baby.

Affected Models

  • Nanit Floor Stand
  • Nanit Bedside Stand
  • Nanit Pro with stand accessories

Common Causes

  • Stand joints not fully locked — height adjustment joints require a firm click into the locked position
  • Stand base on an uneven surface — carpet or uneven floor prevents stable placement
  • Cable hanging over the crib rail creating a tipping or pull hazard
  • Stand height extended beyond the recommended maximum for the model
  • Baby able to reach the stand and pulling on it from inside the crib

How to Fix It

  1. Check all joint connections are fully locked.

The Nanit floor stand has telescoping and rotating joints that click into locked positions. Grip the stand on each side of each joint and try to wiggle it — it should be completely rigid when locked. If any joint moves, adjust to the nearest locking position and firmly click it in place.

  2. Ensure the base is on a firm, flat surface.

Place the stand base on a hard floor next to the crib, not on carpet where the base can tilt. If using on carpet, ensure all feet of the base are in contact with the floor simultaneously.

  3. Route the cable away from the crib and baby.

Route the camera cable down the outside of the stand, then along the baseboard away from the crib — not over or into the crib. A cable hanging into the crib area is both a strangulation hazard and creates a pull point that can destabilise the stand.

  4. Do not extend the stand beyond the recommended height.

Each Nanit stand model has a maximum extension height. Extending beyond this reduces stability significantly. Check your stand's instruction sheet for the recommended mounting height range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Nanit floor stand safe to leave unattended near a baby crib?

Yes, when assembled correctly according to Nanit's instructions. The stand is designed to be stable at the recommended extension height on a hard floor. The main safety risks are overextension, carpet instability, and loose joints — all preventable with correct assembly.

What is the maximum height for the Nanit floor stand?

The Nanit floor stand supports heights from approximately 53 cm to 140 cm (adjustable range). The exact position depends on your crib height and mattress level. Nanit's app includes a placement guide that shows the recommended camera height for your crib dimensions.
